Elijah Griffin Stays Hot with Victory in Iowa City

IOWA CITY — California Baptist University finished off their Iowa trip with a showdown against theNo. 2 Iowa Hawkeyes, ranked behind only Penn State.
No. 2 Iowa lived up to its ranking with a 42-3 victory over the Lancers as the Hawkeyes featured five top-15 wrestlers, including #2 Jacob Warner in the 197 weight class. The Lancers never gave in and pushed Iowa the distance in five of the ten matches.

Freshman Elijah Griffin followed up his impressive match vs. Iowa State with another victory over Iowa. Griffin started strong with an early takedown against Iowa's Aidan Harris and collected two near fall points. As time winded down in the third period, Griffin wrapped up Harris on a reversal and secured his 9-4 decision victory in the 125 weight class.
Hunter Leake, who was also coming off a big victory in Ames on Saturday night had another tight battle that resulted in a 6-4 decision win for Iowa. Leake battled throughout the bout and had two takedowns to keep the match tight.
Peter Acciardi faced another top-10 wrestler after battling #5 Marcus Coleman of Iowa State. This time he met #10 Abe Assad and pushed him the distance before succumbing to an 11-4 decision at the hands of Assad.
