TEMPE --- California Baptist University's STUNT team picked up from where it left off last year, as the Lancers opened the first day of the Arizona State Tournament with a 21-0 shutout victory over Grand Canyon.
"It was exciting to get back on the mat, having people in the stands supporting us and having everyone work together as a team," said senior Savannah Frausto. "The energy from the team was exactly what we needed to kick off this season!
CBU jumped out to a dominating start in the opening quarter, as the Lancers swept partner stunts, 4-0. The Lancers showed no signs of slowing down in the second quarter, as the team took all four rounds in the pyramid and tosses to go into the half up 8-0.
The perfect game continued in the third quarter, as the Lancers dominated all four rounds in jumps and tumbling.
The Lancers put away the Lopes in the fourth quarter, winning a point in each of the final nine rounds to secure the perfect 21-0 victory.
It marks the Lancers' second shutout in the program's history and the first-ever perfect game.
Madison Murray was the highest rated player with a 48.
"Playing my first official STUNT game will be something I will always hold close to my heart because the feeling of being on the mat with my stunt family is indescribable," said freshman Kara Crivelli. "The energy and support from both my team and the crowd is what makes this sport so incredibly thrilling and rewarding.
The Lancers close out the two-day tournament with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 12, against Arizona State at 8 a.m. (PST) and Grand Canyon at 9:30 a.m. (PST).
