Rowell Records Record Night In Sellout Against GCU

RIVERSIDE --- Ty Rowell put together a record night from beyond the arc, as California Baptist University's second-half comeback fell short against Grand Canyon, 65-60.
Lancer Nation was in full force for the second straight game, as 5,050 packed the house to record the fifth sellout at the CBU Events Center and third ever in conference play. It marked the first-ever sellout for the Lancers during a midweek game.
"I expected a good crowd," said head coach Rick Croy. "Tonight was great. Very, very appreciative of the support."
The energy was felt all game but really took over as the Lancers started to chase down the Lopes in the final three minutes. Trailing by 10 and needing stops, the Lancers started their climb in hopes of pulling off the comeback victory.
Rowell helped spark the run for the Lancers with a three at the 1:15 mark to cut the deficit to seven. CBU went into a full-court press and started to play the foul game. The Lopes did well from the charity stripe, though, going 6-8 to score their final six points at the line. CBU finished the final minute of action outscoring the Lopes 11-6.
"I thought GCU was really locked in tonight," said Croy. "I expected us to be. We were in stretches, but too erratic."
Rowell was dangerous from the 3-point line all night, producing a team-high 16 points – 12 of the 16 from deep. Entering the contest, Rowell needed two threes to move up the CBU record book in career threes made. He wasted no time knocking down his second three of the game at the 13:16 mark to pass Eric Dahl for second all-time with 226 threes. Rowell needs four more threes on the season to take over the top spot and pass Jordan Heading to become the Lancers' all-time leading shooter from deep.
