
Lancers Open Day One At The Valley Invitational

BAKERSFIELD --- California Baptist University women's golf team finished the first day of The Valley Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers sit in eighth out of 12 teams.
The two-day 54-hole tournament is being hosted at Bakersfield Country Club on the par 72, 6,000-yard golf course. San Francisco went into the clubhouse after the opening 36 holes with a firm grasp on the lead with a 15-over-par 591 team score. Grand Canyon finished the day in second with a 27-over-par 603 team score, while Cal State Fullerton moved to third with a 33-over-par 609 team score.
After an opening-round 322 team score, the Lancers produced the second-lowest team score in the second round with an 18-over-par 306. The 16 stroke switch moved the Lancers up one spot into eighth, and put them 13 strokes off the top 5.
Sofia Chabon made the most significant leap up the leaderboard on the day, moving up 27 spots to T-18th after a 10-over-par 154. Chabon opened her day with a 9-over-par 81 but bounced back in the second round with a 1-over-par 73 to record the low score for the Lancers. Jocelyn Chee joined Chabon at T-18th with a 10-over-par 80-74=154. Chee closed out her second round with an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Haruka Shintani finished her day at T-33rd with a 14-over-par 79-79=158, while Hailey Loh finished T-48th with an 18-over-par 82-80=162. Esther Lee climbed up three spots to take T-56th with a 21-over-par 84-81=165. Filipa Capelo and Belle Balkan both competed as individuals for the Lancers, placing T-56th and T-66th, respectively.
CBU will look to make a move up the leaderboard in the final round on Tuesday, Feb. 8, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
