
Darkness Suspends Day One At GCU Invitational

PHOENIX --- Darkness suspended play during the first day of the GCU Invitational on Monday, as the 23-team field nearly finished the second round of the 36-hole day.
The two-day tournament is being hosted on the 7,148-yard, par 71 GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona. The second round will be completed Tuesday morning prior to the start of the third and final round.
GCU went into the clubhouse as the leader after play was suspended with a 13-under-par team score. Southern Mississippi is two strokes behind the host Antelopes with an 11-under-par team score.
California Baptist is currently in 21st and sits nine strokes off the top-10.
Freshman Eeli Kujanpää moved up 12 spots during the second round with a current score of 2-under-par. Kujanpää has two holes left in his second round and currently sits T-15th after a first-round even-par 71.
John Hayes was also on the move up the leaderboard, climbing up 30 spots with a current score of 2-under-par with two holes left in his second round. Hayes is currently T-38th after an opening-round 3-over-par 74. Sean Citherlet, James Mackie, and Luke Bartram all have three holes left to finish their second round.
Kyle Cox of UT Arlington leads the field of 120 golfers with a current 8-under-par. Cox fired a 3-under-par 66 in the first round and extended his lead to two strokes during the second round.
The Lancers will complete their second round with a 7:15 a.m. shotgun start and continue into the third and final round on Tuesday, March 15.
