
Lancers In Third After Windy First Round At Sandpiper Invitational

GOLETA --- High winds forced the cancelation of the second round of the Sandpiper Invitational on Monday, as the Lancers sit in a tie for third out of 14 teams.
It was a tough day out on the Sandpiper Golf Club, as the 14-team field was met with gusts over 40mph that resulted in the cancelation of the second 18-holes on the day.
California Baptist was steady despite the tough conditions, recording a 5-over-par 293 team score to sit five strokes off the lead. CSUN went into the clubhouse as the day one leader with an even-par 288 team score, while Sacramento State sits in second with a 2-over-par 290 team score. Weber State joined CBU in third with a 5-over-par team score, while Grand Canyon and Gonzaga finished behind the Lancers in a tie for fifth with a 6-over-par 294 team score.
Eeli Kujanpää and Luke Bartram led the Lancers on the day, as the duo finished with an ever-par 72 to place T-6th. Sean Citherlet joined his teammates inside the top-15 with a 1-over-par 73 to place T-13th. John Hayes recorded a 4-over-par 76 and is T-40th, while James Mackie ended his day with a 5-over-par 77 to finish T-45th. Min Jun Kim competed as an individual for the Lancers and shot an 82 to place T-70th.
Eirik Thomassen of CSUN is the day one leader with a 5-under-par 67 and holds a two-stroke lead over the field of 84 golfers.
The Lancers will play the final 18 holes on Tuesday, April 12, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
