CBU Wins Series Opener Versus Dixie State to Clinch Top-Two Finish in WAC's West Division

The Lancers clinched a second-place finish in the WAC's West Division with a 10-3 victory on Thursday night at Totman Stadium, as they improve to 32-18 overall and 17-10 in the WAC. Dixie State drops to 20-33, 12-15 in conference. CBU has now secured top-two finishes in the conference's regular-season standings in its last three seasons in the WAC.
Jake Skipworth, Michael Carpentier, Ulises Caballero and Chad Castillo each had two-hit games Thursday. Skipworth picked up three runs batted in and Caballero had two of his own, while both also homered.

Spencer Bengard logged his third quality start of the season, as he held the Trailblazers to two runs on four hits, one walk and struck out six over seven innings. He retired 10-straight from the fourth through the seventh innings.
The win and top-two finish in the WAC's West Division continues one of the best ever transitions to full NCAA Division I membership. The Lancers' 107 wins over their first three full seasons in D-I rank third among teams who've made the transition since 1998. California Baptist's 114 wins over the last four seasons rank eighth in that span, despite the 2020 season being cut short 15 games in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
CBU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after home runs from Skipworth and Caballero in the first and second innings. Dixie State pulled within a run, 3-2, after runs in the third and fourth innings.

Runs came home on an RBI single from Skipworth, a wild pitch, a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from Josiah Chavez, a double steal and a throwing error.
