SMITHFIELD --- California Baptist University women's soccer opened up its lone nonconference road trip in a big way on Thursday, as the Lancers beat the Bulldogs of Bryant, 4-1.
It marked a first-time matchup between the two programs as the Lancers made their way to the East Coast. With the win, CBU improves to 1-1 on the season while Bryant drops to 1-2 on the year.
The Lancers wasted no time getting on the board, as Morgan Witz delivered a perfect cross off a corner kick in the eighth minute to the middle of the box. Jayden Ramirez beat her defender in the air and placed a well-executed header to the bottom of the net for the opening goal of the game. It marked Ramirez's first goal of the season and Witz's first assist on the year.

The pace of play slowed down after that, though, as neither side could quite keep possession long enough to produce a strong attack. The Bulldogs were able to produce the equalizer with 10 minutes left in the half after a low shot across the box found the back of the net.
The Lancers responded almost immediately, though, as Elizabeth Oglesby found Deniah Wells on the right side and a step ahead of her defender. Wells received the ball and made her move to beat the Bulldogs' keeper for the go-ahead goal at the 39th minute.
