Lancers End Weekend With Shutout Victory Over Hornets

RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University closed out the weekend with a dominant performance over Sacramento State on Sunday, as the Lancers shutout the Hornets, 2-0.
It marks the third shutout of the season for the Lancers, as they improve to 3-1-2 and capture their first home win at the CBU Soccer Stadium.
The Lancers didn't waste too much time in the early going to find the back of the net, as Lourdes Bosch set up Ari Coronado for the first goal of the game. Coronado took the pass from well outside the box and delivered a beautiful strike to the top right side of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Lancers were relentless in their pursuit for more, as they fired off six more shots before the halftime whistle stopped play. CBU went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
CBU continued to knock at the door, looking for any opportunity it could take until the 79th minute produced a free kick just outside the Hornets' box. Karley Weeks stared down a wall of five Hornet defenders before taking a strike that deflected off one of Sac State's players to find the second goal of the game. It marked Weeks' third goal of the week, as she recorded a brace against UC Riverside in the 3-3 draw.
Mikayla O'Brien earned her first collegiate start for the Lancers, earning her first 90-minute shutout with two saves as a Lancer. Weeks led the offensive attack with a team-best three shots, while Bosch and Coronado recorded two apiece.
UP NEXT
The Lancers open Western Athletic Conference play next week with the home conference opener against Grand Canyon on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.
