Limosnero Throws No-Hitter in Final Non-Conference Game of 2023

RIVERSIDE – True freshman pitcher Carly Limosnero threw the third no-hitter of the season on Monday night to lead CBU to a split with Saint Mary's in the final non-conference series of the season. Her no-no is the third in program history, all of which have come during the 2023 season, and second by a true freshman along with Presley Hosick.
The Lancers split the series with the Gaels, dropping game one 6-2 before dominating SMC in game two by a score of 6-0. The Lancers are now 26-22 on the year, with just six more conference games to be split evenly against Grand Canyon and Seattle U in Riverside.
GAME ONE: SMC 6 - CBU 2
The Gaels struck early, opening a 3-0 lead after just the top of the first inning, but their bats would go cold for a while after that, managing just three singles over the next five innings. CBU would answer in the third and fifth innings as catcher Valerie Alvarez would connect on two RBI hits, scoring Alissa Montes De Oca and Priscilla Estrada, making it a 3-2 game heading into the final frame.
Saint Mary's would find its groove again in clutch time, sandwiching three walks between a pair of singles to make it a 6-2 game. The Lancers would put two on with only one out, but they would be stranded on first and second as the Gaels took the opener.
GAME TWO: CBU 6 – SMC 0
Nothing boosts a pitcher's confidence quite like working with a five-run lead before throwing their first pitch, and that is precisely what Carly Limosnero was gifted on Monday night. The first four Lancers reached base safely via two singles, a two-RBI double from De Oca, and Alvarez wearing her first of two hit-by-pitches in the game. Natalie Elias took advantage of her 12th start of the year and drove in two more on an infield hit. Samantha Demyon capped the scoring in the first with another RBI single, scoring Elias before the inning ended.
Even though she had a solid score advantage, Limosnero still had to do the work to claim her highlight night at Funk Stadium. She allowed three base runners total on two walks and, ironically, a self-inflicted error in the first, but she didn't let it affect her as she sat down the Gaels in order in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. A single-Gael baserunner managed to work a walk in the top of the sixth and made it to third via a sacrifice bunt and a ground out, but Limosnero cashed in her lone strikeout of the night to end the inning, and the threat, to preserve her historic outing. ‼️ 𝗡𝗢-𝗛𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧‼️

The Lancers are humming as they prepare to host GCU in the season's penultimate Western Athletic Conference series. The Lopes currently occupy second place in the WAC softball standings at 37-10 (12-6 WAC), just one game back of Utah Tech for the top spot. CBU is caught in the congestion below with a 26-22 overall record, but the 9-9 league tally is the same as three other programs heading into the weekend. Two teams, SFA and Utah Valley, are tied for third at 10-8 in the WAC, while three teams are battling it out in a tie for ninth at 8-10. The WAC tournament field is entirely in the air still, with the only certainty being that Southern Utah, at 3-15 in the conference, will not be playing in Phoenix in two weeks.
Friday's doubleheader against the Lopes is set for 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. starts, with Saturday's finale scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at John C. Funk Stadium.
