ARLINGTON, TX --- The red-hot Lancers are off to the road for the first time in nine games, as the WAC season resumes this weekend in Arlington. Entering the weekend with the top record in the conference, CBU will look to make history in the Lone Star State and extend its eight-game win streak.
CBU has swept their previous two conference series, both at home in Riverside against Utah Valley and Utah Tech. The Lancers enter the week 8-1 in conference play, three games ahead of this weekend's opponent, UT Arlington.
The Lancers come into the weekend with 32 wins, one shy of the Division I era record (2024). CBU needs nine wins in WAC action to match the most conference wins in program history, and nine games remain in the conference season.
Pitching has been on display for the Lancers as of late. During CBU's eight-game win streak, the Lancers have held opponents to three runs or less in all eight games. Three of those games were shutouts, including a three-hit shutout of UC Riverside tossed by Madalyn Martin on Tuesday. Miranda De Nava had a two-hit shutout in CBU's series opener against Utah Valley.
De Nava leads the Lancers with 13 wins and a 2.42 ERA. The sophomore right-hander has logged 133.0 IP and is holding opposing hitters to a .219 batting average.
Emily Darwin has also been dominant as of late in the circle. The senior tossed ten innings last week and went 3-0. Darwin is 9-3 this season with three saves. Opposing hitters are batting .252 against the right-hander.
Offensively, Ashlee Annett has featured the hot bat for the Lancers. Annett is batting .533 over the last five games, including two doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI. Annett had two walk-off singles last week and drove in all three of CBU's runs in Tuesday's 3-0 win against UC Riverside. Kenzie Farrier-Pilon has also been a thorn in the side of opposing pitchers, hitting .474 in her last five games.
Senior Makayla Medellin comes into the week two RBI shy of matching the CBU Division I era record for RBI in a season. Last week, she set new single-season records for home runs and runs scored. Farrier-Pilon has also matched the run-scoring record for CBU's DI era.
UT Arlington, the second-place team in the WAC standings, enters the week 5-4 in conference action. The Mavericks lost two-of-three against Utah Valley last weekend and are in action on Wednesday night against Baylor.
Valeria Feeney leads the Mavericks with a .364 batting average and is one of five qualified UTA hitters batting over .300. Mia McNulty leads the squad with ten home runs, while Marley Neises leads with 30 RBI. In the circle, Madi McDonnell features a team-low 5.48 ERA and is 9-8 entering the weekend.
The series opens on Friday with a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. (PT). Action wraps up on Saturday with a 10 a.m. (PT) start for a single game. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
