RIVERSIDE --- The first edition of the 2026 Crosstown Showdown went in favor of the Lancers, as CBU shut out UC Riverside, 3-0, at John C. Funk Stadium. Led by a dominant performance by Madalyn Martin, CBU extended its win streak to eight games.
Tuesday was the finale of a season-long nine-game homestand. The Lancers went 8-1, winning eight straight after opening the homestand with a loss two weeks ago.
The homestand included conference sweeps of Utah Valley and Utah Tech.
Right-hander Madalyn Martin earned the start on Tuesday and proceeded to throw the first complete game of her collegiate career. The sophomore took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and was one over the minimum through five.
Martin ended the shutout with five strikeouts and three hits allowed.
The Lancers provided Martin with some offense in the third inning when Ashlee Annett singled through the right side, driving in Stevie Robison and Matti Severns. Annett added another RBI in the fifth when a hard-hit ball hit the leg of UC Riverside's third baseman and ricocheted out of play, plating Severns on what was scored a ground rule double.
CBU also aided Martin with stout defense, as the Lancers turned two double plays.
With Tuesday's win, the Lancers move to 32-12 under coach Brandon Telesco. The Lancers are one win away from matching the DI era record for most wins in a single season.
The Lancers will get their chance to tie and break the record this weekend when they visit UT Arlington for three conference games in Texas. CBU returns to Funk Stadium on April 16 for the second installment of the Crosstown Showdown.
