IRVINE--- The California Baptist University track team competed in the Steve Scott Invitational to finish off their outdoor regular season. The Lancers had 29 athletes compete over two days in seven events and set some new marks in an impressive showing.
The women's 3000M steeplechase started the weekend for CBU with Karin Gosek and Emilia Mikszuta, the lone Lancers competing in that event. Gosek finished third, and Mikszuta came in right behind her teammates with a fourth-place finish. Gosek's time of 10:22.58 set a new personal best in the event, improving her previous time by four seconds. The time also put her second in program history in the steeplechase.
In the women's mile invitational, CBU raced three with Greta Karinauskaite, Yasna Petrova, and Maelle Porcher. Porcher and Karinauskaite both placed in the top 10 in the lone heat out of 41 total runners. Porcher's time of 4:42.08 finished in second place, coming in only one second behind the first-place finisher.
The men's mile invitational was one of the more impressive showings for the Lancers. In the first heat, all four Lancer runners finished in the top-6, with Valentin Soca claiming the top spot with a near sub-four-minute mile. Soca's time of 4:01.98 paced the group while his teammates Giediurs Valincius (4:05.36), Rikus Van Niekerk (4:06.99), and Christian Ricketts (4:07.58) rounded out the top of the heat.

The time was a new personal best by four seconds and placed fourth in the program's history. On the men's side, three of the top four finishers were Lancers in Tyler Tickner (2nd), Massimiliano Berti (3rd), and Zlatko Kozuhar (4th). Tickner and Kozuhar both set new personal bests in the 5000M at 14:22.29 and 14:24.05, respectively.
The men's 10000M wrapped up day one for CBU, with all Lancers competing in the race. Ricketts and Soca ran as pacers, while Matias Reynaga and Arturs Medveds ran the distance. Reynaga finished with a time of 28:51.51, which was two seconds off a new personal best and would be sixth in the program records. Medveds came in right behind him with a 28:55.19 time, which was also two seconds off a personal best.
The women's 800M was the only event on day two for CBU, with four athletes competing across three heats. Cabrera's time was .02 seconds off a new personal best, while Porcher's time is a top-5 time in the program records.
Next, the Lancers will prepare for a trip to the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Nacogdoches, Texas. The meet will take place from May 11-13.
