RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball wrapped its penultimate regular season series on Saturday night, dropping the rubber match against Grand Canyon 9-0 in Riverside. CBU moves to 27-24 overall and 10-11 in conference play. The Western Athletic Standings are tight after another jostling weekend, with the Lancers now sitting in a tie for sixth place with Utah Valley. Only the top eight teams make the playoffs, so every win is essential, with six teams fighting for the final four spots.
The Lopes got off to another big start, posting five runs in the first inning for the second-straight game. GCU added to their lead in the second and seventh innings while keeping CBU scoreless. The Lancers would load the bases in the bottom of the fifth but could not collect any runs for their efforts.
Priscilla Estrada, Ashlee Annett, Natalie Elias, and Maya Martinez all hit safely in the game. Estrada extended her season-high hit streak to 13 in-a-row with tonight's sixth-inning knock, the longest such streak in the Division I era and the longest at CBU since Hannah Thieroff also reached a baker's dozen in the final Division II season of 2018.
The Lancers will finish the regular season with one more home series next week when Seattle U comes to town. Friday's doubleheader is set for 4:00 and 6:30 p.m., and Saturday's finale has a first pitch time of 1:00 p.m. Saturday will also include Senior Day festivities before and after the game, so plan accordingly!
