ABILENE, TX --- The final road trip of the 2026 regular season brought the Lancers to Texas for three games at Poly Wells Field on the campus of Abilene Christian University. Looking for wins to keep their lead in the WAC Standings, the Lancers' offense put up multiple crooked numbers to lead CBU to a day one sweep.
Friday's sweep moves the Lancers to 12-2 in conference action, while their record improves to 37-15.
The ball was flying through the Texas sky in game one, as the Lancers launched a pair of two-run home runs to aid their 13-0 victory. Victoria Macias hit the first home run of the day, an opposite-field shot, to cap off a four-run first inning. Makayla Medellin then added to the attack with her 12th home run of the season, a shot off the scoreboard in left field to push CBU's lead to 7-0.
Medellin ended game one 4-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored.
The big inning for the Lancers came in the seventh when CBU sent 13 batters to the plate as part of a six-run outburst. The first three runs crossed home via bases-loaded walks, and then RBI singles followed from Medellin, Madalyn Martin, and Bethany Millen.
Opposing ACU was right-hander Miranda De Nava. The sophomore logged her 12th complete game of the season as she held the Wildcats to four hits during the shutout. De Nava took a perfect game into the fourth inning before ACU eventually got their first base runner of the day.
De Nava is now 15-7 with a 2.39 ERA.
The CBU bats stayed hot for game two, as the Lancers pushed across another crooked number in the first. Kenzie Farrier-Pilon started the scoring with an RBI single, and then Macias drove her home with an RBI double. Emily Darwin added the third run on a fielder's choice.
Two more runs crossed home in the second, this time on an inside-the-park home run by Matti Severns. The Lancers then struck for four more runs in the fourth, with Severns driving in the first on an RBI double. Martin and Sydney Peterson also picked up RBI in the fourth.
Darwin not only batted in game two, but she was also CBU's starting pitcher. The right-hander logged three innings in the circle, allowing just one hit during that time. Abilene Christian pushed across two unearned runs during Darwin's time.
Annika Hollingsworth earned the victory in game two after four shutout innings in relief. Hollingsworth is now 6-2.
Severns and Peterson finished game two 2-for-3. Severns drove in three runs. Farrier-Pilon and Macias each finished 2-for-4.
The series will wrap up on Saturday with a single game at 10 a.m. PST. Saturday's game will be streamed on WAC International.
CBU will not be able to clinch an outright WAC regular-season championship on Saturday due to Tarleton State defeating Utah Tech in game one of their doubleheader. The Lancers can, however, clinch a share of the conference title with a win on Saturday and two wins from Utah Tech. A final score in game two of Tarleton State's doubleheader had not been recorded at the time of this publication.
