Lancers Close Season On A High Note, Defeating Santa Clara in Finale

SAN DIEGO – California Baptist University women's water polo closed out the 2023 season with a dominant win over Santa Clara in the GCC Tournament. The Lancers earned a 12-7 victory over the Broncos, outscoring SCU 8-1 in the second and third periods.
CBU took a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter as three different Lancers scored and assisted during the scoring streak, but the Lancers led just 4-3 after the first. The second quarter saw the Broncos score first before the Lancers went on a 6-0 run in the final 7:10 of the frame. In her final game in the Blue and Gold, Jamie Hutton notched her 27th game with a hat trick or better. She caps he storied career with 186 goals, 133 assists, and 319 total points.
Abby Mammen netted a pair of goals against Santa Clara, with the other seven scores coming from Maddie Schwegler, Melinna Galbraith, Emaly Hutton, Dora Lehoczky, Celeste Almandariz, Morgan Gates, and Brooklyn Young.
The Lancers end 2023 with a 15-19 record overall but with a young and now experienced core lineup looking forward to putting that knowledge to use in 2024.
