SAN DIEGO - California Baptist men's soccer took a midweek trip down south to take on #22 San Diego, playing them strong to start, but the Toreros would claim a 2-0 victory at home on Wednesday.
"San Diego came out with great energy first half, and we largely dealt well with it even if we weren't at our best, so it was extremely frustrating to give away a goal on a late corner kick. While we played a much better second half, to give away another goal on a corner has cost us," remarked Head Coach Coe Michaelson after the game. "This is something they are very good at, but from our perspective, we have to be better at defending in these moments. There's no time for putting our heads down now, we have another big game next week, and we will be better."
A furiously played first half was played with a lot of speed and pressure as both teams pressed the attack early. Just one shot was on target in the first half, and it managed to find the back of the Lancer net in the 37th minute off a Torero corner kick.
The Lancers returned in the second half to find a Torero side still on the attack, scoring another in the 56th minute, again off of a corner kick.
Senior goalkeeper Nolan Premack was back in goal tonight, making his first start of the year after missing the first five games, making four saves on the night.
CBU is off for nearly a week before hosting UC Santa Barbara at CBU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday the 19th at 7:00 p.m.
