CBU Trounces LIU To Split Day One at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY - The California Baptist University men's water polo team split results on day one of the Princeton Invitational, winning their opener against Long Island University 24-6 before falling to host #6 Princeton by a score of 15-7. The Lancers' record now stands at 2-4 after Friday's action, with another two games to go in New Jersey.

#15 CBU 24 - LIU 6

The Lancers started the tournament on an absolute tear, starting the game on a 9-0 run and ending with a 6-1 stretch. CBU shut out the Sharks in the first period and allowed just one before the halftime break.

In total, 13 Lancers found the back of the net, led by a breakout performance from freshman Collin White, who tucked in five goals. Jaedon Calder (three goals), Alex Righetti (three), and Toby Bumgardner (two) all chipped in multi-goal performances.

Logan Puhl led the team in points, recording a hat trick of goals and assists to reach his six-point total. Puhl also did it on the defensive end, nabbing five steals and drawing a pair of exclusions. Trevor Benge and Trevor Alamilo split time in the cage, combining to stop nine shots with Benge adding a steal and an assist.

The Lancers finished the night against the tournament hosts, sixth-ranked Princeton. Sophomore Jaedan Calden opened the scoring for CBU and the game with his fourth goal of the day, but the Tigers would answer with a 5-0 run to close out the first period.

Princeton took a 7-3 lead into the break and built on that in the third, ending the frame on top by a score of 14-4. The teams played out the fourth quarter with CBU winning the frame 3-1 behind a pair of goals from Wyatt Bugbee and one more from Bumgardner.

The Lancers are scheduled for a second-straight double header tomorrow morning, starting early on the West Coast. Game one against George Washington will begin at 5:00 a.m. Pacific time, while game two will be played at 9:30 a.m. against Bucknell.
