MWP Preview: CBU Hosts The Joust this Weekend in Riverside

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University men's water polo team will be home this weekend for just the second time this season as they play host to The Joust Tournament at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
CBU, which sits at 11-3, will host Toronto, Cal State Fullerton, and Fresno Pacific over the two-day tournament, with neutral-site matches between those teams also being hosted at the Lancer Aquatics Center. The Lancers are coming off a successful MPSF Invitational appearance, in which they defeated #6 UC Davis and #17 Santa Clara and played close matches against #2 USC and #8 Princeton in Stanford, CA. The Lancers' win over UC Davis was the second-highest-ranked win in program history, only behind CBU's win over #5 UC Irvine in 2024.
CBU enters the weekend ranked #15 in the nation and will host Cal State Fullerton and the University of Toronto on day one of the tournament. The matchup against CSUF will be a non-conference game, as they will also face the Titans again in October in Fullerton, which will serve as the conference matchup between the two programs. CBU is 6-0 all-time against the Titans and will be the lone DI matchup of the tournament. The second match will be against the Varsity Blues of Toronto, which is a Canadian collegiate team. This will be the third time the Varsity Blues have made the trip down to Riverside and will be one of two matches against the Lancers this tournament.
On day two of The Joust, CBU will once again face the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday morning, followed by an afternoon match with Fresno Pacific. The game against FPU will be one of three matches with the Sunbirds this season, after the Lancers bested them in the IE Classic earlier this season, and will face them again in Fresno in late October.
CBU continues to have one of the best offenses in the nation, led by Andrea Nuzzo and Rafa Martinez. Nuzzo leads the team with 33 goals and 37 assists, while Martinez has scored 30 goals this season and has drawn a team-best 41 exclusions.
