RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University men's water polo team opened up their home tournament 2-0 as they defeated #20 Cal State Fullerton in the first game and the University of Toronto in the evening match.

The wins give CBU a 13-3 overall record and keep them perfect at home at 4-0.

G1 vs #20 CSUF:

The Lancers jumped out to a lead over the Titans in the opening period, scoring seven goals in the frame and six in a row to end it. Rafa Martinez was responsible for the opening three goals of the period as the Lancers fed him in the middle early and often. Fullerton would get shutout by the Lancer defense in the second period as CBU would lead their conference foe 10-1 at the half.

The Titans came out much stronger in the second half as they would score the first two goals of the period before a Paulo Hernandez powerplay goal broke up the scoring run. CBU's defense continued to suffocate the Titans' offense through the second half, and the Lancers would pull out the 17-6 victory in a statement home win.

The win, although not a conference match, would be the first ranked win of the season for the Lancers at home and would keep CBU a perfect 7-0 against Cal State Fullerton in the all-time series. Martinez would finish with four goals on five shots, while freshman Alessandro Tiberio would shine off the bench with a hat trick. Tyler Carson would earn the victory in the cage with just two goals allowed in his one half of work while also racking up three saves.

G2 vs Toronto:

The evening match for the Lancers would be against the University of Toronto, a Canadian-based team from the NCWP. The Lancers would lean on their second unit for the majority of the match as they would lead 7-1 after the first frame. Toronto would bring the score within five midway through the second period, but the Lancers would score the final three goals of the half to lead 11-3 at the break.

CBU's second unit would perform well in the second half, managing seven goals to five for Toronto, as they went on to win 18-8 for a 2-0 day at the Lancer Aquatics Center. CBU would have 15 unique goal scorers in the match, led by Quinton Hoffman and Zander Montoya with two goals apiece. Edric Scott and Tanner McCreary would combine for three saves in the cage as the Lancers won their fourth straight match.

NEXT: The Lancers will finish out the Joust on Saturday as they face Toronto and Fresno Pacific at 10:30 AM and 12 PM.
