CBU moves to 5-4 on the young season and 2-0 in front of its home crowd.
CBU vs Oregon State:
Oregon State pressured CBU early and dominated the opening frame, leading by as many as fourteen and claiming the set 25-11.
After the slow offensive start, CBU picked it up in a big way in the second set and connected on the first five points. The Beavers battled back and briefly held a 13-11 lead in the period. From there, the two teams went back and forth until a late 4-0 CBU run clinched the set 25-23 for the Lancers.
Oregon State dominated the third set, similar to how they did in the opening set, and completely stifled the CBU offense. The Beavers put together multiple sizable runs in the set and defeated CBU 25-14, pushing the Lancers to the brink of elimination.
But as they did in the win over Nevada, CBU fought back and showed tremendous resilience and poise in the fourth set. CBU went through a spectrum of emotions in the set, with Oregon State eventually tying the period at 23. CBU claimed the final two points off a Beaver service error and a mighty Catherine Krieger swing to force the fifth set.
In the game-deciding set, CBU controlled the frame from the jump and finished off the Beavers with a Logan Manley ace, just as they did to Nevada the night before. Krieger, Nicole Mauser, and Michalina Rola all recorded multiple kills in the set to help the Lancers clinch a 2-0 home start.
The win over Oregon State illustrated the passion and calmness of this team, according to sophomore setter Reese Reed, "Our resilience comes from our ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations. We are a highly passionate group, but we compete well when we play with composure. That really showed today as it felt like there was a collective focus on our goal to win."
CBU vs UCR:
The Lancers wasted no time in the second match of the day as they opened up several runs on the Highlanders in the opening set en route to the 25-18 win. Leah Pease dished out five assists in the frame, while Krieger and Mauser led the attack with five early kills.
CBU would dominate the rest of the match and put the Highlanders away handily by scores of 25-19 and 25-20 to claim the game. The series-clinching point came via a Mia Jerue, marking the third-straight match the Lancers have won on a game-winning ace.
