RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's golf season is set to begin in Ogden, Utah, on Monday morning as the Lancers compete in the Kelsey Chugg Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Weber State at the Wolfcreek Golf Club and is the first event of a four-tournament fall slate for Marc Machado's squad. The spring season is packed with six events, including the SoCal Ryder Cup hosted by CBU, which features California State University, Fullerton.
CBU returns five golfers and welcomes a trio of freshmen to the competitive squad. Most notably, Pusanisa Ekkantrong returns for her second season under Machado's direction and is coming off an extremely successful freshman season. Ekkantrong earned her first individual tournament win last season while helping the team to a pair of team tournament wins, finishing the season by placing fourth individually at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. Sam Dizon returns for her junior season and will serve this season as the team captain, looking to earn her second career individual tournament win this year. Burberry Zhang, Diletta Facchini, and Damini Law Ghanshyani also return to the squad for the 2024-2025 season. Joining the team for their first season are Abby Abarcus, Lisa Shimmon, and Nana Ishikawa. Abarcus and Ishikawa are both international pick-ups, while Shimmon is a native of California.
Beginning their season in Utah, Machado has selected Ekkantrong, Dizon, Shimmon, Facchini, and Zhang to represent California Baptist at the first event of the golf season. Shimmon will compete in her first collegiate event, while the other four will be looking to kick off their season on a low note. Live stats can be found on Scoreboard.
