CBU Secures Fourth Series Sweep on Sunday

QUEENS, NEW YORK--- It was a typical Sunday for the California Baptist baseball program after sweeping St. John's University with a shutout victory to wrap up the East Coast weekend. The Lancers bested the Red Storm 4-0, while pitching a bullpen game that saw nine different Lancers take the mound. California Baptist is now 24-5 on the season and picks up its fourth sweep of the season.
The nine pitchers for the Lancers were the stars of the show on Sunday afternoon as the CBU pitching staff tossed 14 strikeouts and limited the home team to six hits. Michael Malki even pitched an inning of relief after his outstanding start last Tuesday against UC Riverside, striking out three batters to bring his K total to eight this week.
At the plate, Cole Hansen was once again a top performer with three hits on five at-bats. The catcher also picked up one RBI thanks to a well-placed single. Ben Castelli earned himself an RBI with a solo home run, while Diesel Toth and Carter Eberhard also snagged RBIs with singles.
The Sunday 4-0 victory marks the third shutout win for the Lancers this season and wraps up nonconference play for CBU. Gary Adcock's squad will now head to Texas to take on Abilene Christian next weekend to open up Western Athletic Conference play.
