QUEENS, NEW YORK--- California Baptist University Baseball secured the program's 23rd win this season after taking the first two games of their weekend series versus St. John's University. After three scoreless innings, the Lancers tacked on a four-run fourth that would carry them through to a 5-3 victory over the Red Storm. The Saturday afternoon marks the program's seventh series win this season and improves their season record to 23-5.
Bryan Peck was phenomenal from the mound for California Baptist and held St. John's to no hits until the bottom of the fourth inning. The graduate pitcher went the distance for seven innings and gave up just four hits and no earned runs. Zachary Yates came in during the bottom of the eighth after the home team gained a bit of momentum after scoring to drop the Lancer lead to three, but finished out the final five outs to secure his third save of the season.
The fourth inning offensive breakout was highlighted by a pair of doubles from Matt Chavez and Chris Ramirez. Cole Howorth would add to the Lancer lead with an RBI single in the top of the seventh to add an insurance run. CBU was productive on offense again with 12 hits against the East Coast squad.
California Baptist will go for its third sweep of the season tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. as they take on the Red Storm one last time this weekend.
