Hansen Leads Lancers Past St. John's on Friday

QUEENS, NEW YORK--- The California Baptist baseball program headed to the East Coast this weekend, taking on St. John's University in its final non-conference series. CBU took the Friday game handily with a 12-3 victory that was highlighted by five hits from Cole Hansen. The Lancers improve to 22-5 this season and are on a four-game winning streak.

California Baptist put the pressure on early, and its first run came home in the form of a bases-loaded walk. Ryde Dykstra and Diesel Toth both picked up an RBI in the top of the third before the Red Storm would make its way on the board with a two-run homer. The sixth inning was when the Lancers did the most damage, adding six runs to their lead. Hansen got things going with an RBI single, and Bryce McFeely would single down the right field line to bring a pair home. Both Connor Ross and Toth would knock RBI singles as well for two more runs, and Ben Castelli rounded out the inning with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt that scored the runner on third.

The top of the ninth featured another RBI single from Hansen for the 12-3 victory. The catcher went five for six at the plate, while extending his hitting streak to five games and his on-base streak to 17 games. Ross and Toth both picked up a pair of RBI, as the team totaled 14 hits. The Lancer pitching staff tossed seven strikeouts and allowed seven hits, while Niko Urquidi earned the pitching win.

California Baptist will be back tomorrow at 11 a.m. and will look to extend its non-conference winning streak to seven series.
