RIVERSIDE --- Junior Stavros Charalampous was announced the 2025 WAC Defensive Player of the Year on Friday, as the WAC revealed its all-conference selections. In anticipation of the conference tournament, which begins this weekend in Riverside, the Lancers led the conference with nine All-WAC honorees.
Charalampous highlights the selections, voted on by head coaches in the WAC, as the Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-WAC honoree. The junior started 15 matches his season, netting a career-high four goals along the way. Splitting time between the midfield and backline, Charalampous was part of a CBU defense that surrendered 1.12 goals per match.
Joining Charampous on the First-Team are defender Haroun Conteh, defender William Lawson, and forward Blake D'Agostino.
D'Agostino led the CBU attack with ten goals, which placed second in the WAC. Five of D'Agostino's goals came on penalty attempts, with the sophomore drawing three of them. He started the season with a goal in seven consecutive matches and netted his first collegiate brace in a conference victory at Air Force.
Lawson was a two-time WAC Defender of the Week, most recently this week when he netted the winning goal against San Diego State to clinch the regular season conference championship. Lawson also scored the winning goal in a 1-0 shutout of Grand Canyon, a match in which he played a key role in blanking the Lopes.
Conteh was a fixture for the CBU backline, as he appeared in all 16 matches (15 starts), totaling 1,290 minutes of action. Conteh scored his only goal during the Lancers' shutout of Air Force.
Three Lancers were also named to the All-WAC Second-Team: Hugo Do Rego, Tizian Marth, and Felix Ezekwuka.
Do Rego, CBU's goalkeeper, led the WAC with 58 saves this season. Marth provided an offensive spark in conference play, netting three goals to pair with three assists (five total assists this season). Marth scored the equalizer in San Diego last week. Ezekwuka wrapped up his first season with the Lancers, scoring two goals to pair with three assists.
Freshmen Alexander Cruz and Liam Jones round out the All-WAC selections with All-Freshmen team honorees. Jones wrapped up his first collegiate season with four goals and three assists. Cruz racked up 961 minutes in 14 matches, netting two goals to pair with an assist.
Grand Canyon's Junior Diouf was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Year. Utah Tech's Luca Campoli claimed Goalkeeper of the Year, and his coach, Jonny Broadhead, was named Coach of the Year.
The 2025 WAC Tournament kicks off on Sunday with two matches at the CBU Soccer Stadium. Not in action this week is the Lancers, as they earned a bye into the semifinals. CBU will play either San Jose State or San Diego State on Wednesday, November 12, at 7 p.m.
