PAYSON, AZ--- The California Baptist men's golf program opened the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday morning, starting strong after finishing in fourth place of nine programs after the first 18 holes. Sean Citherlet carded the best finish after day one in Arizona for the Lancers and currently sits tied for eighth with one other player of 50 total golfers.
Citherlet jumped out to a solid start with four birdies through the first round, posting a 73 to stick around in the top 10 individually. Not far behind is Eeli Kujanpää, who also secured four birdies through the first 18 and ended two-over par to secure tenth place. Both Citherlet and Kujanpaa entered the weekend tournament with the advantage of playing the course during the 2024 WAC Tournament, and that edge certainly proved itself on day one.
Jared Abercrombie posted a 76 during his first round of the weekend, while Bryden Brown ended tied for 31st after shooting five-over. Lorenzo Lombardozzi tallied seven-over for a 39th-place finish but did go even on one of the toughest holes of the day: a par-five hole seven that spans 624 feet.
CBU will continue day two of the WAC Tournament tomorrow morning, and the first Lancer will tee off at 9:20 a.m.
