RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University men's water polo team will prepare for another conference match as well as the 2026 Julian Fraser Memorial Invitational.
The Lancers enter the week 20-6 overall and 1-1 in Big West action after falling to #6 UC Irvine at home last Saturday at the Lancer Aquatics Center. CBU remains in second place in the conference standings, tied with UCSD, Long Beach State, and UCSB.
CBU will begin the week with another Big West matchup as they head to Titan Aquatics Center to face the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The Lancers have already played CSUF once this season at home in non-conference action, where they bested them 17-6 at The Joust. This will be just the second road contest against the Titans in the all-time series, with the previous matchup coming in 2024 when CBU bested CSUF 15-7. The Titans are 0-2 in Big West action with losses to #6 UC Irvine and #9 Long Beach State, both on the road.
Following the match in Fullerton, the Lancers will head up north to compete in the annual Julian Fraser Memorial Invitational, which will be hosted by Santa Clara and San Jose State. CBU's first matchup will be on Friday afternoon as they take on the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds for the third time this season in Santa Clara. The Lancers picked up two wins over FPU at the IE Classic and The Joust by an average margin of 11.5 goals.
CBU will then head to San Jose to face the #15 San Jose State Spartans and the #6 Princeton Tigers. The matchup against SJSU will be a familiar one, as they have been WCC foes for the past four seasons. The Spartans won four of the five matchups during their WCC Era; however, the Lancers' lone win came in the 2024 WCC Championship game, en route to an NCAA Tournament bid. The Lancers faced SJSU in every WCC Tournament Championship game since 2023. The final matchup of the tournament will be against the #6 Princeton Tigers. CBU has played Princeton once already this season at the MPSF Invitational, where they fell to the Tigers 8-12. CBU has not defeated Princeton since 2010, when it did so in Princeton, New Jersey.
The Lancers will be led by the duo of Andrea Nuzzo and Rafa Martinez, who have been simply phenomenal this season, combining for nearly 40% of CBU's goals (107). Martinez and Nuzzo have scored 54 and 53 goals, respectively, while both shooting over 50%. Those figures rank second and third in the Big West, respectively, with Nuzzo leading the conference in assists with 60.
