FULLERTON, CA--- The California Baptist University made it 2-0 against the Cal State Fullerton Titans as they bested them in a conference showdown at the Titan Aquatics Center, 13-8.
The Lancers now improve to 2-1 in Big West Action with both wins coming on the road, and pick up win #21 of the season.
The Lancers surrendered the first goal of the game but would more than make up for it by scoring six goals unanswered from there to take full control of the match. CSUF would attempt to climb back in the match with back-to-back goals on consecutive possessions, but the Lancers would tack two more on the board before the half's end as they led 9-4 at the break.
CBU would shut the Titans out in the third quarter as they expanded their lead to the largest of the game at 12-4 with a goal from Tanner Alford. The Titans would take advantage of the Lancer bench toward the end of the fourth period, scoring four of the final five goals of the match to bring the score within reason. The comeback would not be enough as the Lancers would close out the Titans 13-8 to pick up their second Big West victory.
Andrea Nuzzo led the way on the scoreboard once again with a hat trick as well as a trio of assists for a six-point match. Wyatt Bugbee, Rafa Martinez, and Tanner Alford would all find the back of the net multiple times, while Aidan Olson tied Nuzzo for the team lead in assists with three. In goal, Tanner McCreary would allow just four goals in a little over 24 minutes of work while saving nine shots.
NEXT: The Lancers will hit the road tomorrow as they head up to Santa Clara to face Fresno Pacific in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
