CBU Goes Undefeated in the IE Classic After Wins over Redlands and FPU

REDLANDS, CA--- The Lancers continued their success at the IE Classic on Saturday morning as they made it a 4-0 weekend with dominant performances over Redlands and Fresno Pacific. The wins improve CBU's record to 7-1 overall and extend their winning streak to six games.

G1 at Redlands:

The Lancers' offense came out hot once again against the Bulldogs as they would score the opening five goals of the contest without a response from the home squad. The goals came from five different scorers, including Aidan Olsen, Rafa Martinez, Michael Abshier, Quinton Hoffman, and Asher Eaton. Redlands would finally find the back of the net at the 2:21 mark, but CBU would lead 6-2 after eight minutes of action.

CBU would not slow down in the second period as they would score seven more times in the frame to lead 13-4 at the break. The Bulldogs would put a little pressure on the Lancers in the third period with a 3-3 score, but the Lancers would shut out Redlands in the final period to earn the 18-7 victory and continue their perfect weekend at the IE Classic.

Quinton Hoffman was magnificent in the middle for the Lancers with five goals on five shots and drew three exclusions. Andrea Nuzzo and Rafa Martinez were the only other Lancers with multiple goals, while Tyler Carson would lead the goalkeeping with four saves in the second half.

G2 vs Fresno Pacific:

The CBU defense was the story of the first half as they would nearly shutout the Sunbirds through 16 minutes. Fueled by a great start from Edric Scott in goal, the Lancers managed to keep Fresno Pacific off the scoreboard for nearly 15 minutes of gameplay, with the Sunbirds finally finding the back of the net at the 1:23 mark of the second period. CBU scored eight unanswered before the goal and would lead 9-1 heading into halftime.

The Sunbirds came out much more intensely in the second half as they would nearly outscore the Lancers in the third period, notching three goals on the scoreboard compared to four for CBU. The Lancers maintained their poise and would quell any chance of an FPU comeback en route to a 16-6 victory to solidify a perfect 4-0 weekend in the IE Classic.

Paulo Hernandez would secure a hat trick for the second time on the weekend as he would go 3/3 from the field with an assist to lead the Lancer offense. Freshman Logan Hetland would score twice and draw a pair of exclusions, while Edric Scott would secure nine saves in three periods of action in his first-ever start for CBU.

NEXT: The Lancers will make their home debut as they host Redlands and Biola on Thursday, September 10, at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
