Jonathan Miller was named the California Baptist University women's water polo head coach at CBU in the spring of 2014.
In eight seasons, CBU has finished five campaigns as a top-25 ranked team in the NCAA, including the last four years (2018-21) and a program-best No. 17 ranking in 2021. The Lancers have put together three top-four finishes in the Golden Coast Conference, with a team-best third place in 2016. Overall, CBU has amassed a 131-101 overall record under Miller.
The Lancers have produced 14 All-Americans, 24 All-GCC selections and five GCC All-Tournament picks under Miller. CBU has also been responsible for the back-to-back NCAA Player of the Year in 2015-16 and 2016 GCC Player of the Year in Hannah Evans. Kira O'Donell was also named the 2018 GCC Newcomer of the Year.
Academically, CBU has been elite in Miller's tenure. The team has produced top five team GPAs in the NCAA four times, including the top mark in all of Division I and second best in the country overall with a 3.61 in 2019. The Lancers have accumulated a total of 203 all-academic awards along the way, with 111 at the national level from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and 92 from the GCC.
Miller previously was an assistant for both the men's water polo and swimming and diving programs in 2012. The former standout water polo player and goalie for the Lancers came to CBU after three seasons as the head women's water polo coach and assistant swimming and diving coach at Grove City College in Grove City, Pa.
Miller led the Wolverines to CWPA Division III titles in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and was named 2010 CWPA Division III Coach of the Year. During his tenure with Grove City, the Wolverines racked up a 52-34 record, including a program best 18-8 mark his last season. He also helped lead the Wolverine men's and women's swimming and diving teams to three straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championships. With both a bachelor's and master's of science in kinesiology from CBU, Miller also served as an assistant professor of physical education at Grove City for three years.
Miller graduated from CBU in 2008, staying on as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's water polo programs while he earned his master's degree. He was a four-year standout goalie for the Lancers and has the third-most saves in program history with 1,025. His 415 saves in 2007 are still the highest single season total in program history and his 22 saves against Pepperdine in 2007, which still sits second all-time. Miller was named CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2007 and was ACWPA All-Academic in 2004 and 2006.
Miller and his wife Amanda have three children together.
