ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Vanessa Wellman couldn't have picked a better time to score her first goal of the season, scoring in the 103rd minute Thursday to lift the NAIA's No. 18-ranked California Baptist to a 1-0 double-overtime win over NCAA Division II Dixie State (Utah).
The Lancers remain unbeaten and improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Rebels, who are in their first season at the DII level, suffer their first defeat and fall to 4-1.
CBU outshot DSC 14-4, including a 4-0 margin in overtime, but it couldn't find the back of the net until Wellman converted from an assist by freshman Saundra O'Connor. It is the Lancers' second overtime win of the season.
Sophomore All-GSAC keeper Heather Andrews made 3 saves in collecting her third shutout of the season. She runs her scoreless streak to 295 minutes to start the season. In all, the Lancers have yet to allow a goal in 385 minutes of action this year as freshman Emily Evanson posted a shutout against Dominican.
