Gentry scored a pair of her goals as part of an overwhelming 12-1 rally by the Lancers that made the score 12-2 just 2 minutes into the third quarter. The Lancers are now on a 3-game winning streak and beat the Athenas (0-2) for the ninth time in the past 9 years. CBU improves to 3-2.
Abigayle Lin netted the first goal of the game for Claremont-Mudd Scripps just 3:15 into the game, but it was the last goal the Athenas would tally until Kristyn Ross' goal with 1:38 remaining in the second quarter. During that stretch of over 10 minutes, the Lancer chucked in 8 goals, including 2 each by Whitney Shaw and Corrie Stuursma. The 8-0 rally was a smaller unit of CBU's 12-1 tear to bring the score to 12-2 early in the third period.
Krista Chacon ended with 3 goals as Brittany Baurer threw in a pair of pointers. All-time career goals leader Cheryl Ogden (201), along with Ashleigh Wheeler, Julie Hale and Maggie Smith each scored on the afternoon.
"It was a great game to have at home," said CBU head coach Rick Rowland. "We showed a balanced scoring attack throughout the afternoon, which is good because it displays the depth of our team. We were able to maintain ourselves on offense and defense with the reserves in there, which is very pleasing to see."
Gentry's third goal of the game put CBU up by 10, at 14-4, late in the third period, but Kristin Orkney netted the first of 3 consecutive Athenas goals to make a game out of it at 14-7. Chacon scored 2 goals in a row to regain distance for the Lancers, who converted on 5 6-on-5 opportunities.
Kasey Weaver notched 4 saves as well as 3 steals and a pair of assists on the afternoon, while Julie Abendschein grabbed 6 saves and one steal while doling out 3 assists in the second half.
