RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Whitney Shaw's game-tying goal was enough to send the game into overtime, but Bucknell's Valentina Rozas netted the game-winner less than a minute into the third sudden-death overtime period, as the Bison held on for a, 13-12, victory.
The Lancers had trailed, 3-0, after the first period, and were down by a 6-3 tally early in the third period, but temporarily turned around a faltering 6-on-5 game, as Shaw's tally with 6 seconds left on the fourth-quarter clock tied the score for just the second time in the game, forcing California Baptist's first overtime of the season.
The loss snaps an 8-game winning streak for the Lancers (12-4), the second year in a row they have had a string of 8 wins snapped by the Bison, who improve to 9-7 on the season.
Following a goal by Bucknell's Elizabeth Jensen just 22 seconds into the first overtime, the Lancers scored 2 goals in a row, with scores from Julie Hale and Cydney Owen to make the score 10-9 in favor of CBU with just 24 tics remaining on the clock. Bucknell tied it up at 10-10 with a 5-meter goal by Meagan Gins, but Stacey Rahn tucked away a goal with just one second left in the period to give CBU a, 11-10, lead heading into the second full overtime.
Rahn again took the lead for the Lancers with 1:39 left in the second overtime, after Aubrey Rowe tied it up with a goal just 32 seconds into the period. It would have been enough to win the game, but Jensen answered back with her fourth goal of the game with 31 seconds remaining, pushing the game to the first sudden-death period.
Kasey Weaver made a handful of key saves in the first and second sudden-death periods, but the Lancers, who were just 2-for-8 on 6-on-5 opportunities throughout the game, were held scoreless throughout the remainder of the game, allowing for Rozas' goal less than a minute into the third sudden-death period.
