TEMPE, Ariz. --- Kasey Weaver's 8 saves helped California Baptist withstand a late charge from Redlands to pick up the Lancers' only win in a 3-game weekend at the Arizona State Invitational.
California Baptist (19-8) took a pair of losses Saturday to No. 5-ranked San Diego State by a score of 1-8 and lost to No. 18 Michigan by a 7-5 tally, but came away with a 7-6 victory over Redlands Sunday morning.
Weaver made a total of 29 saves over the trio of games, and Whitney Shaw carried the bulk of the burden on the offensive end, with 4 goals altogether.
Chelsea Gentry netted the only goal for the Lancers in their loss to San Diego State, as the Tritons scored 4 goals in the first quarter en route to the 8-1 victory. Gentry's goal came with 3:08 remaining in the third quarter, snapping a string of 20:52 without a CBU tally.
Stephanie Glendenning scored to tie up Michigan at 1-1, and Shaw scored her only goal of the afternoon to re-tie the game at 5-5 after 3 quarters. However, Wolverine goalie Kristen Davis held California Baptist scoreless in the fourth period, as Michigan scored 2 goals for the 7-5 victory.
The win over Redlands was California Baptist's second victory over the Bulldogs this season, after a 13-8 win Feb. 24. The Lancers fell behind, 3-2 at the half, but Shaw scored twice in the second half and was joined by Cheryl Ogden, Cydney Owen and Corrie Stuursma, who netted a goal apiece in the second half as the Lancers out-scored Redlands 5-3 the rest of the way.
