RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? California Baptist tied a school record winning its 10th straight game with a 9-2 win over Gannon in its opening game of the Lancer Invitational.
The Lancers (14-5) got two goals from three different players as Cydney Owen, Whitney Shaw and Rachel Esau all scored two goals. Corrie Stuursma, Julie Snodgrass, and Ashleigh Wheeler all had single goals. Julie Abendschein picked up seven saves on the day.
CBU opened with a 4-1 run that extended through the second quarter. Owen opened the game for the Lancers with a goal just a minute in before the Golden Knights tied the contest at one. The Lancers got three straight goals from Stuursma, Owen and Shaw to take the 4-1 lead early in the second.
After a five-meter goal from Gannon, CBU answered with a pair of goals from Esau and Wheeler.
The Lancers sealed the Golden Knights' fate in the second half scoring three goals while holding Gannon scoreless. Stuursma and Shaw each had goals in the third quarter and Easu added a single goal in the fourth.
The Lancers will now host Villanova, at 10 a.m., and Fresno Pacific, at 4 p.m. in the final day of the Lancer Invite.
