SANTA BARBARA, Calif. ? Life on the road is never easy, but the road around the Golden State Athletic Conference is a road that some wish would be less traveled.
No. 17 California Baptist is one of those wishers after the Lancers (10-4, 2-2 GSAC) fell 73-56 to No. 15 Westmont Tuesday night. CBU shot under 30 percent for the first time this year going 19-for-66 from the floor and hit only three 3-pointers in 13 attempts.
Nicole Davis led the Lancers with 11 points while Brenna Hahn was the only CBU player in double figures with 11. Heather Couzens scored eight points and grabbed seven boards while Alyson Haley notched a game-high 12 rebounds.
CBU trailed by 15 at the half, 41-26, and never recovered. The only lead the Lancers had was at 3-2 on a 3-pointer by Jeanine Deno. CBU kept it close until the Warriors used a 16-4 surge to close out the first half. That single stretch in the game was all Westmont needed to keep its distance.
The Lancers did out rebound the Warriors (43-36) and were able to force 19 turnovers, but struggled to hit shots all night.
California Baptist will now return home for the first time in over a month when it hosts Concordia, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
