RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Two-time All-GSAC Fabiola Zanella da Silva scored twice and assisted on another as the NAIA's No. 7-ranked California Baptist University routed Fresno Pacific, 5-0, in the opening round of the GSAC Postseason Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
The win puts the Lancers into the semifinals for the third straight year as they improve to 15-3-1 overall, needing one more win to tie a school-record for victories in a season. The GSAC's highest scoring team has scored 14 goals the past three games.
The Sunbirds' season comes to a close at 9-7-1.
CBU dominated from outset and outshot the Sunbirds, 25-10, including a 15-4 margin in the first half. However, the Lancers weren't able to get on the board until the final 10 minutes of the half.
Britney Quiroz found herself wide open in the area and drilled a shot on frame that FPU keeper Catherine Michaelis sprawled out to save. The rebounded landed right at the feet of Jacquelyn Witz, who put in her sixth goal of the season in the 37th minute to get the Lancers on the board.
Just four minutes later, da Silva found the net when she carried the ball 30 yards down the field to the top of the area. Her low rip from 20 yards out whizzed past Michaelis and into the net to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
da Silva wasted little time getting her second goal as she made it 3-0 in the 51st minute. Joanna Idom got the ball near the midfield stripe and then sent it to a streaking da Silva, who snuck past the Sunbird defense. She got the ball, dribbled around Michaelis and then left-footed it into the net.
NAIA Player of the Week Amanda Lammers continued her hot play, scoring her fourth goal in the past two games in the 69th minute. da Silva played a ball to end the line, and Lizzy Bendrick go to it and played into the area to Lammers, who scored her seventh of the season.
Giannina Loza completed the scoring the 78th minute off an assist from Lammers.
The Lancers will host Vanguard, which beat Concordia on penalty kicks, Friday at 2 p.m. in the semifinals.
