RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Megan Bradford tied a career-high with 20 points as California Baptist University dropped its hope Golden State Athletic Conference opener 81-60 to No. 10 Azusa Pacific.
The Lancers (4-3, 1-1 GSAC) shot just 32.4 percent from the floor 53.3 percent from the free throw line as the Cougars shot 46 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
Kendra Morris also added 10 points while Heather Couzens and Brenna Hahn each added nine. Couzens also added eight boards and three blocks.
CBU stayed close to APU early through the first half and trailed just by six at 13-7 with 12:08 left in the half, but the Cougars used a 16-7 run to take a 29-14 lead with 5:56 left. Bradford answered with a 3-pointer and that started a 12-3 run by the Lancers to cut their deficit to six at 32-26. Each team traded a trey, making it 35-29, before APU's Amber Williams drained a 3-pointer with just seconds left to give the Cougars a 38-29 lead at intermission.
Bradford led the way for CBU in the first half with 11 points, nine of which came on 3-for-3 shooting from downtown.
It was all APU in the second half as they shot 51.9 percent from the field in the second half.
The Cougars dominated in the paint outscoring the Lancers 34-22 and scored 27 points off of 21 CBU turnovers. The Lancers will take a break from GSAC play until Jan. 2 and will hit the road next week to Northern California where they will take on Cal Maritime, Dec. 11, and Holy Names, Dec. 12.
