The second period opened with a Lancer score, just 37 seconds in to take a 5-4 lead. The Matadors quickly tied the contest again, 5-5, and then with eight seconds left before halftime, CSUN tacked on one more score to take a 6-5 edge over CBU into the break.

In the end, the Lancer comeback bid fell just short as they dropped the hard-fought contest.
"It was a good game; a good test," said head coach Jacob Medina. "They're ranked 13 in the country for a reason; they have Olympic-caliber talent."
Jennifer Grutz led the Lancers in scoring with four goals in the contest, and Collette Brown added two.
"It really was a good game, but we're not satisfied," said Medina. "We play them again, later in the season at their place, and of course, we want to win."
The Lancers will be back in action Feb. 13 at the Roadrunner Invitational in Bakersfield, Calif. CBU will play Pacific at 12:05 p.m., then face off against Santa Clara at 3:20 p.m.
