SALT LAKE CITY, Utah --- California Baptist University once again got a big night from V.V. Vasciunaite to finish off its second victory in three games at the Westminster Fall Classic.
One night after scoring 25 in the Lancers' rout of Montana Western, Vasciunaite dropped 28 on Carroll (Mont.), helping CBU to an 88-72 victory.
Renetha Burton and Brenna Hahn also found their way into double figures in the complete victory by CBU. Burton scored 25 points and grabbed 10 boards and Hahn contributed 17, going 4-for-8 from 3-point range.
“This was an unbelievable team effort to get the win tonight,” said Head Coach John Marcum “We shared the ball and shot a nice clip from the field and at the free throw line. V.V. shot lights out from beyond the arc.”
Fifteen of Vasciunaite's 28 points were from 3-point territory, as the Junior from Vilnius, Lithuania went 5-for-7.
CBU got the wire-to-wire victory, leading by as much as 23 in the first half and 30 in the second half.
The Lancers shot 45.3 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 80.8 percent from the line. The CBU defense stepped up as well, holding Carroll to just 35.8 percent shooting on the night.
CBU forced 22 turnovers by the Saints, with Vascuinaite recording a game-high five steals.
“Shanice Billington ran our offense really well tonight,” said Marcum. “She did a great job of keeping everyone involved.”
Billington recorded a season-high 10 assists in the game. Burton's 11 field goals were also a season high.
The Lancers continue their impressive start to the season, improving to 4-1. All five of the team's games thus far have been on the road.
CBU now travels to Lewiston, Idaho for the Lewis and Clark State tournament next weekend. The Lancers' home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 27, against La Sierra.
