The Lancers added another mark in the win column with a victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. CBU had a 5-3 lead at halftime, and then stretched their lead to 8-4 by the end of the third quarter. CMS pulled back within three goals, but never got any closer as CBU walked away with the win.
The story of the contest though, was Jennifer Grutz who led all scorers with five goals in the game for the Lancers.
CBU's second game on day one of the Cal Lutheran Tournament did not go as well, however, as the Lancers faced a tough contest against the No. 4-ranked team in the country in the Golden Bears. Cal jumped out to an early 4-1 lead over the Lancers, and stretched their advantage to seven, 8-1, by halftime. Though the Lancers slowed the Cal offense in the second half, they were not able to complete the comeback, eventually taking the loss in the contest.
Chelsea Gentry posted two scores in the contest for CBU.
The Lancers play again Saturday in day two of the Cal Lutheran Tournament. CBU plays Villanova at 8:30 a.m. and then faces off against Penn State Behrend at 1:30 p.m., in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
