The Lancers, who finished the 2009 campaign ranked No. 17 in the nation, open the season with three consecutive weekends of tournaments on the road. CBU will play in the UCI Mini in Irvine, Calif., Oct. 4. Then the Lancers will travel to Princeton, N.J., to play in the Princeton Tournament the following weekend. Rounding out the trio of weekends on the road, CBU will be at the Cal Lutheran Tournament in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Sept. 17.
"The first few weeks of the season we have some real good tests for our guys and it should be exciting," said Rowland. "We get some great matches at each one of those tournaments and I expect the same this year."
To close out the month of September, CBU will host the Lancer Invite. Among the numerous teams on the docket for the two-day tournament is reigning NCAA Division I National Champion University of Southern California.
"I really appreciate Jovan's (Vavic USC head coach) attitude," said Rowland. "He wants to play different schools than the ones he sees all the time. We had them in here a few years back and gave them a good run in the first half before they pulled away in the second. We bring a change of pace to the table. It's good for both sides and good for water polo."
Highlighting October is another tournament full of tough competition in the Santa Clara Tournament in Santa Clara, Calif., Oct. 22-23.
To close out the regular season, CBU will host Air Force Academy and Concordia Nov. 6 at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
"More than half our schedule is against top-20 teams with some definite top-10 teams mixed in," said Rowland. "It's about getting a well rounded schedule and I am very excited about the one we've put together."
