LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's Taylor Lundquist's first goal of the season came just 22 seconds into overtime and lifted the unranked Eagles to a stunning 2-1 upset of fourth-ranked California Baptist University Tuesday night.
The loss snaps the Lancers' five game winning streak and drops them to 7-2 overall, 1-1 GSAC (3 points). The Eagles improve to 4-2-2, 1-0-1 (4 points).
The Lancers out-shot the Eagles, 11-9, including 9-5 mark in the second half, but the Eagles took the only shot of the extra time. It ended the game.
"Soccer is a humbling game," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair, "and we learned a valuable lesson tonight. It's a 90-minute game, and we weren't consistent for 90 minutes. Give Biola credit, though, they played very well. This is the best league in the country, and you have to be ready to play your best every night."
Neither team scored in a relatively uneventful first half that had a combined five shots, but Jacquelyn Witz scored for the second straight game in the 58th minute to give the Lancers a 1-0 advantage. She finished he third goal of the season and 32nd of her career off an assist from her sister, Bernadette Witz.
The lead stood for 21 minutes, and the Lancers were less than 12 minutes from escaping with a win when Biola equalized. Victoria Dalla Zanna came off the bench and headed in the game-tying score in the 79th minute to set up overtime.
"We started to get a nice rhythm and flow and then had a miscommunication on the defensive end that allowed them to equalize," said St. Clair.
In the
extra time, Lundquist took a quick shot from 20 yards out and it beat a
screened Nicoline Jorgensen, giving the Eagles their biggest win of the season.

The Master's on Saturday," said St. Clair.
The Lancers host the No. 12-ranked Mustangs at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in a game between top 15 teams.
