HUGE WIN FOR CBU

NORTHRIDGE Calif.--- The California Baptist women's water polo team earned one its biggest wins in program history, albeit in an ending neither side wanted.
With 29 seconds left in the match and the score knotted at 9-9 CBU was just 5-meters away from a win over No. 15 UCSB.
But before the game could continue UCSB's coach was red carded after an argument with an official just before the game was called after the heated conversation escalated. The result was a forfeit win in favor of the Lancers.
“[I'm] Pretty bummed we didn't get a chance to finish the game,” said Head Coach Jacob Medina. “[It was a] little sour finish but we had the win and were awarded the win.”
CBU (24-12) never trailed in the game and could have all but sealed the victory with a penalty score.
Lost in the chaos was a great all-around team effort against one of the premiere programs in collegiate water polo.
Kylie Chevalier scored twice and dished out three assists while Mallory Montano drew six Gaucho ejections.
Camryn Rogers tallied eight saves, and Petra Kovacs posted a hat trick. Christina Webb added two goals as Alyssa Birch and Tania Acavedo each scored once.
In the second match CBU faced the No. 16 Matadors of Cal State Northridge.
The Lancers had just an hour break between games and came out flat according to Medina. Northridge came out strong and never looked back, defeating the Lancers 14-6.
Nicole Berry found the back of the net twice as Birch and Morgan Barrows recorded two assists apiece. Rogers stopped four shots as CBU never contended in the contest.
The Lancers will close what has been their most challenging season next weekend at the NAIA Invite at the Lancer Aquatic Center.
CBU has played against 12 CWPA top-20 teams, and four top-10 NCAA Div. III opponents.
The Lancers went a combined 6-10 in those matches and won every single match against an NAIA squad.
