RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Kylee Nicassio had a goal and assist, and California Baptist University had its third straight game with 20 or more shots in a 3-0 non-conference win against Pacific West Conference foe Dixie State Wednesday afternoon.
The win is the Lancers' third straight as they improve to 4-1. The Red Storm fall to 2-4.
The Lancers out-shot the Red Storm, 25-9, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Things could have been much worse, too, as the Lancers also hit the post twice and the crossbar once.
"The girls had a very good performance today," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "We weren't very consistent in the first half, but we made some adjustments at halftime and created good opportunities. Kylee was great today, and so was the entire back four. It's another step in the right direction."
Nicassio got things going in the 18th minute with a nice individual effort. She was played a ball in the middle of the field about 35 yards away from the goal which she headed over the Red Storm defense. Nicassio then beat her defender to the ball, cut back to the left and rifled a shot from just outside the 18-yard box over the head of Red Storm keeper April Beck.
For Nicassio, it is her 37th career goal, putting her in fifth place all by herself on the Lancers' career goal scoring list. She is just 11 goals away from tying Courtney Firth for the program record.
Not to be outdone, Kimberly Allard scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 47th minute. Amanda Lammers crossed a ball in from the right side. Allard got on the end of it, but redirected it to Nicassio who was standing near the penalty spot. Nicassio headed back towards the goal, and Allard flicked it over Beck to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.
Silvia Sanchez rounded out the scoring with an 84th minute strike. Eva Solis played the ball right to the middle of the field that Sanchez one-timed just inside the near post.
Nicoline Jorgensen made three saves for her second shutout of the year.
