RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University outshot Notre Dame de Namur, 28-5, including 9-0 in overtime, but the Lancers couldn't sneak a golden goal and thus settled for a 3-3 draw with the Argonauts in a Pacific West Conference game Tuesday afternoon.
The tie is the Lancers' first of the season as they move to 5-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 PacWest. The Argonauts are now 1-5-1, 0-1-1.
Five of the game's first six goals were scored in the first half, three of them in the first 13 minutes as the Argonauts rolled out to a 2-1 early lead. The Lancers, though, scored twice in a nine-minute span late in the first half to carry a 3-2 lead into the locker room, but it was short-lived as NDNU equalized in the 63rd minute.
In the final 45 minutes of regulation and the 20 minutes of extra time, the Lancers had a 17-3 advantage in shots. NDNU keeper Kelsey Baxter made nine saves, seven of them after halftime.
After Sarah Biser got behind the defense and scored the game's first goal on the game's first shot in the fourth minute, Kimberly Allard equalized in the 10th minute. Less than three minutes later, Andrea Huerta gave the Argonauts a 2-1 advantage, and the Lancers, who had given up just two goals in the first six games combined, allowed two in the first 12:04 today.
Kylee Nicassio tied it with a nice individual effort in the 34th minute to get within 10 goals of tying the program's career record. Then, just 2:54 away from halftime, Eva Solis drew a foul in the box, and Fabiola Zanella da Silva converted the penalty kick to give the Lancers the 3-2 lead.
Massiel Castellanos tied it with a goal at the 62:57 mark.
From that point, the Lancers outshot the Argonauts, 14-1, and had several excellent chances for a game-winner. Twice in the final two minutes of the first overtime Baxter saved close range shots from reigning PacWest Player of the Week Amanda Lammers.
Then, in the second overtime, CBU took seven shots in 10 minutes, and Baxter saved two of them. With just 19 seconds remaining, Solis was in the right side of the box all alone, but her shot went right into Baxter, who preserved the tie.
