TRIESTE, Italy --- California Baptist University's incoming freshman Laura Kocsis competed with the Hungarian National team in their second place finish at the World Junior Women's Water Polo Championships from Sept. 11-17 in Trieste Italy.
Through six games, Kocsis found the back of the net eight times, including three goals in a 29-1 win over Mexico. To reach the finals, Hungary narrowly beat the United States 9-8 and Russia 12-11 before falling to Spain 11-9 in the Championship game.
Kocsis, from Budapest, Hungary, also played for Club UVSE, the winners of the 19-under Hungarian Youth Championships, before Head Coach Jacob Medina announced her commitment to CBU last May.
"Kocsis is one of the most high profile women's water polo player we have ever brought into the program," Medina said. "She will undoubtedly make a huge contribution to the future success of the Lancer water polo program."
Kocsis will soon join her teammates as the team prepares for their season opener in January.
