RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University weathered the storm in the second day of the Lancer Invite beating NCAA Division I Harvard and CMS.
In game one the Lancers took a quick lead at 3-1 at the end of the first quarter. Kim Latschaw, Molly Gritchen, and Petra Kovacs all tallied one goal for the Lancers.
In the second quarter Kovacs wasted no time scoring her third goal in just thirty seconds of play. The Crimson would respond with two goals bringing the score within one at 4-3. A late charge by the Lancers with back-to-back goals from Tania Acavedo and Kovacs would bring the score to 7-5 to end the half.
The Crimson would take over in the third quarter with four-straight goals advancing the score to 9-7 in favor of Harvard. With just twenty-two seconds left in the quarter Kovacs would put one in the goal to keep the Lancers alive at 9-8.
The Lancers took the momentum back in the fourth quarter with four-straight goals. The tying goal came from Doris Tran off a 6-on-5 and soon after Acavedo put one through for the lead at 10-9. Kovacs would have the last word, as she scored two more goals sealing the deal.
The Lancers beat the Crimson 12-10 and Kovacs recorded a double hat trick with six goals.
In game two on the day the Lancers beat the Athenas 14-5.
The Lancers had five different players score in the first quarter giving them the lead at 5-2. Camryn Rogers came up big in the second quarter recording four of her five saves. Leticia Perez recorded four saves in the third and fourth quarter.
Brie Tryon led the Lancers with three goals and Kovacs knocked in two goals. The Lancers were 3-of-4 on 6-on-5 attempts against the Athenas.
The Lancers will play next at the Roadrunner Invite on March 24th.
