FRESNO, Calif. --- To complete a perfect National Invite at 4-0, No. 19 California Baptist University posted wins over Concordia and Azusa Pacific Saturday to conclude their 2012 season with a record of 24-11.
In their season closer, CBU downed Concordia 14-7 in a game that seemed closer than the score suggests.
After the first eight minutes, the Lancers stood tied with the Eagles at 1-1 after Molly Gritchen scored off of a 6-on-5 opportunity at 6:49.
Petra Kovacs also scored on the power play at 6:40 in the second quarter but the Eagles again forced the tie at 4:23. Laura Kocsis' late goal with 17 seconds left in the half provided the Lancers with the lead once for all as CBU stood on top for the rest of the match.
Reinvigorated and rested after halftime, the Lancers extended their one-goal lead all the way to 7-2 at 4:02 with the third-quarter hat-trick from Mallory Montano, a goal from Christina (Webb) Young and another from Gritchen.
Kocsis scored her second goal at 1:43 to take the 8-3 lead into the final quarter.
Within the first minute of the fourth, both Young and Kocsis found the back of the net again to post a 10-3 lead. Tania Acavedo scored two in the fourth quarter, along with another apiece from Kovacs and Montano.
Four-year starter Camryn Rogers played her final game in the cage for CBU, recording six saves.
Three performances of three goals or more led CBU past Azusa Pacific 15-5 in the Lancers morning opener.
Montano kick-started CBU's offense with two straight goals in the first quarter. Gritchen scored her first of five and was followed by Kovacs' 6-on-5 goal for the 4-0 Lancer lead at the end of one.
Gritchen scored the hat-trick in the second quarter, along with goals from Kim Latcshaw and another from Montano. CBU held the Cougars scoreless until the 4:40 mark, and headed into halftime with a 9-1 lead.
CBU narrowly outscore APU in the third, 4-3, using goals from Montano, Gritchen Kocsis and Young.
Latcshaw scored her third in the fourth quarter and Doris Tran fired one back to complete CBU's 15-5 win.
Starter Rogers tallied two goals in the first half and freshman Leticia Perez finished with five saves in the second half.
